When we live alone
When We Live Alone explores the ways in which we live alone, yet together, in contemporary cities. The unprecedented increase in the number of people living alone challenges theories about housing and raises questions about how this change in social structure and people’s lifestyles affects cities as a whole. Through a series of interconnected stories, the film investigates this new phenomenon with the help of architect Takahashi Ippei and sociologist Yoshikazu Nango who accompany us through several individual homes in Tokyo. If living alone becomes our new reality, what does it look like?
