Franco’s Promise

The village of Belchite in Aragon is emblematic for the collective oblivion that took over Spain after the Civil War. Today, the broken memory of its population is lost amongst the ruins of the old village (destroyed by battles during the war), and throughout the streets of the new establishment, built by dictator Franco. However, despite their parents’ silence, the children of today have begun questioning the story of the ruins – among them, each of those younglings tells his own tale.
