Crackle of Time – Christoph Schlingensief and his Opera Village in Burkina Faso
Crackle of Time tells the story of an impossible project, and the people involved. Christopher Schlingensief was a noted director of film, opera, and theatre who devoted himself to building a self-sufficient opera village in Burkina Faso. Working with Burkina Fasoan architect Diébédo Francis Kéré, Schlingensief worked tirelessly to oversee the establishment of this village despite terminal cancer. In 2010, Schlingensief died of cancer, but his vision endured. The opera village celebrated its opening in 2011, the same year that Schlingensief was posthumously awarded the Golde Lion at the Venice Biennale. Crackle of Time follows the story of the opera village, from its unlikely beginnnings to it’s ultimate success.
