The Sinking Fringe

The Baaibuurt-West neighborhood in Amsterdam is undergoing a transformation to address the housing crisis in the Netherlands. The urban regeneration project involves raising the sinking ground with seven meters of sand to prepare the area for new residential buildings.

The documentary captures the stories and spaces of a close-knit community of artists, students, and freelancers during its final six months, as the demolition of the buildings threatens to erase the bonds formed by those who spent much of their lives there.

The film is screened alongside The Southern Thruway.
