Fackelmann

A documentary film about Hans Fackelmann, a prominent architect from the Banat region, showcasing powerful stories and documents from his discreet life.

“It gives me pleasure to carve out a piece of space from the cosmos, to shape it according to functional needs…,” said Hans Fackelmann, a functionalist architect who, in his all-too-short career, evolved from the modernist minimalism of the “International Style” towards his own expressionist synthesis—a true fusion of the arts, in collaboration with visual artists, as seen in the extraordinary churches of Orșova and Dumbrăvița.

The cinematic project is part of the series Vertical Portrait – Architects in the Memory of the City, an engaging exploration of Timișoara’s built history, recalling the contributions of some of its most valuable architects.

The screening is followed by a discussion with director Grațian Gâldău & arch. Șerban Țigănaș.

Grațian Gâldău

Grațian Gâldău is a film director and visual artist known for his initiative to recover the memory and history of Timișoara’s architecture through the Portret Vertical project. This series of feature-length documentary films presents the biography and work of significant figures in the local architectural world, gaining wide public appreciation and contributing to the revival of discussions on the conservation of Timișoara’s cultural heritage.

Șerban Țigănaș

Șerban Țigănaș is an architect, trainer, and advocate for his profession. Together with his team at Dico și Țigănaș, he has won multiple awards and completed major projects across the country. He is a university professor and the dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca.
He has served as the president of the Romanian Order of Architects and has been part of the leadership of the Architects’ Council of Europe and the International Union of Architects. He regularly lectures and writes on contemporary topics in architecture and the development of the built environment.
